- 'Lan Sync' only begins to work when the file is uploaded to the Dropbox-servers. There it can be evaluated who can get the file via 'LAN Sync'. If you drop a file in the Dropbox-folder on a workstation the file is not yet known to the Dropbox-servers. It first needs to be uploaded to the Dropbox-servers before the transfer via your LAN can begin.

AeroFS is x87 faster than Dropbox in LAN syncing [Video]
I'm a long-time paying user of Dropbox, and for a few months now I'm also a beta user of the competing AeroFS service. Both services are excellent and revolutionary. But I'm frustrated with how slow Dropbox's LAN sync is. When I put a file on my Dropbox on my desktop computer, I expect it to appear in my Dropbox on my laptop very quickly. But Dropbox takes a really long time to transfer the file, probably because it's trying to first transfer it to the Dropbox servers instead of directly to my laptop. AeroFS, on the other hand, does it much faster, probably because the transfer is done directly.
In this video I've measured and compared the time it takes Dropbox and AeroFS to transfer an 8.5 Megabyte file from my desktop to my laptop. Dropbox took 12:28 minutes, while AeroFS took only 00:08 seconds. AeroFS is x87 faster than Dropbox in moving a file over the LAN.

Dropbox is one of the best cloud services out there, and I really hope that they understand just how frustrating their LAN Sync feature is. I'm sure that they can figure out a way to do LAN transfers as fast as AeroFS does them. (Or at least not x87 slower!)
Dropbox Lan Sync
I am not affiliated with AeroFS in any way– I'm just a fan of their service, and of course, there are many aspects in which Dropbox is better than AeroFS.
Notion of time meaning dictionary. 'Time' is the notion where the amount of subdimensions or at least one of the constituent subdimensions is decreasing, or in other words: 'time' is a fraction of a dimension or curve of a dimension, and its value can be between 0 and 1, while 'spatial' dimension is an integer dimension, and its value can be -1, 0 and 1.

Usually no firewall configuration is needed to run the Dropbox desktop app. If your web browser has an internet connection, the desktop app should be able to use the same connection.

Usually no firewall configuration is needed to run the Dropbox desktop app. If your web browser has an internet connection, the desktop app should be able to use the same connection.
However, if sync isn't working, adjust your firewall settings to permit the desktop app internet access. Usually, adding Dropbox to a list of applications with internet access resolves the issue.
Each brand of firewall software works differently depending on the manufacturer. Refer to your firewall software documentation for specific directions. In general, you may need to do the following:
- Allow Dropbox access to ports 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS)
- For Mac, allow Dropbox, DropboxMacUpdate, and Dropbox Web Helper
- For Windows, allow Dropbox, Dropbox.exe, and DropboxUpdate.exe
- The Open button requires access to ports 17600 and 17603.
- The LAN Sync feature requires access to port 17500 (recommended).
- Add dropbox.com to the list of approved websites for your firewall, and make sure that it isn't blacklisted.
- Allow *.dropbox and other Dropbox domains to access the internet.

Dropbox supports most proxies. If you use a proxy to access the internet, you can specify your proxy settings within Dropbox desktop app preferences.
